Fallen For Time Spent With Kids

so many parents out there get so confused by what kinds of things that their kids are using they just do not understand. Back in the day all people had were things like  model railways and other simple things like this. It would seem that nowadays it is all about high tech gadgets that parents do not get. Is all of this about parents not understanding or just not caring?

Technology Is Changing

Parents really must realise that the days of playing with wooden toys are long gone, this is the age of video games and fast  RC helicopters and parents sometimes just cannot be bothered to get updated with this. The real problems start to show when the parents cannot be bothered to keep up with the times I feel. I am still not that old and when I asked my Father to play a video game with me he did not actually want to but he did and he really enjoyed it, he now plays them regularly.

Technology that is out is not exactly that hard to get into so it is well worth a go with your child if you have the time.

The Way The World Is

The reason things do not stay the same in the world is because it would get boring, the same applies to technology. However, there are things that stick around from times past such as Scalextric sets so if you are a parent do not worry, not all is actually lost.

The best advice I can give to you is to actually just go with the flow of things and make sure that you spend all of the time you can with your children. In the end, this is something well worth doing.

so there you have it really, time spent with your child is always well spent so do make sure you know this well.

Are Computer Games Worse Than Old Fashioned Games?

Kids and teenagers today have been brought up playing games totally unimaginable to all us who are over 40 years old. Most games until the 80s used to take place outdoors as kids’ activities were more physical and where consisting mainly of sports.

Judging whether the change has been for the kid’s benefit or not is something for the sociologists of the future to investigate and make conclusions. Adults and people who didn’t have the chance to be part of the digital games revolution oppose strongly in that great influence computer games have in their kids lives and their main argument is that computer games are too static and they do not motivate children to move and excercise!

Looking at today’s kinds in terms of general knowledge one could argue that they know a lot more compared to the kids of previous generations mainly because of the vast amount of information available to them through the TV and the internet.

Creativity, great emotions and collaboration are cultivated by both types of play, the traditional one and the technological one alike. The game of ‘exploration’, probably unknown to today’s kids is a great example as it was one of the favourite boys’ games in the 70s and 80s. The game was about locating an dilapidated residential building or a warehouse, break into it and try to get in every single room in order to collect as many strange and unusual objects as possible.

I will never forget the day we entered that warehouse that used to belong to an electrical components rich businessman who had recently died and all his businesses ceased to exist. Our imagination was running with 100 miles per hour each time a very odd object was on our way varying from cable ties to circuit breakers, everything seemed really extraordinary for our minds.

Similarly, playing today a typical adventure game on a computer can lead to similar emotions if say; the main character is entering a similar building and is looking around for something interesting. The essence is still the same although the way has significantly changed. Having the chance to experience both traditional games and the digital ones I can say that the emotional and mental excitement I was getting out of the two was equally important and by no means one was better than the other. Because of all the aforementioned reasons I am against all adults who disprove computer games as useless and dangerous just because the physical element is missing.

Is There An Instrument Right For Kids?

Getting your child to learn how to play an instrument is a really good idea to take on. In my opinion this really doesn’t matter if you cannot teach them yourself because you are taking the time and effort to get them lessons and music is a really good way to get a child’s mind active and to help them build skills.

Recorder

This one is learn by children all over the world when they are in first school and they learn it thorough their music classes. This instrument is by no means a hard one to have to learn but it can still be hard on a child and the best thing to do is to sit with them to help them learn the notes and practice some of the songs that they are studying, by doing this you are really showing an interest.

Bringing the flute into a child who is all over the place all of the time and very active is not a good idea at all. A drum kit would not be a good idea for something like this either because it would be too loud, go for something like the saxophone or the trumpet because they are halfway between the two, by no means are they easy instruments to learn.

Instruments that are out there for children that really do want to learn or have already played something else include the harp and the violin. Other than this expect a quiet child to really enjoy an instrument such as this one.

Guitars and other things like banjos are for children in the middle of both of the above categories as they can be both loud (electric guitars) or very quiet with the acoustic varieties. If you are still very insure on what type of instrument your child would like to play then the best thing to do is sit them down and ask them what they think.

Nine times out of ten it is best to speak to the child on matters like this one.

Encourage Free Play For Our Kids Or Not

Being parents is a life process not many are actually prepared for that until that moment comes so people seriously start thinking about how to go for that. When it comes to decision making there are other factors that will influence that such as culture, education and e.

If we look at Europe as an example. In the South, warm climate countries, smacking ones kids is a quite common practice if parents think their kids are not obeying to their commands. However, that behaviour is completely unacceptable and will be seriusly disapproved in northern European countries where such an action could lead to parents being in serious trouble. It is striking how much more relaxed and tolerant northern European parents are when it comes to the way they deal with their children’s behaviour.

Kids will be treated equally as any other adult and parents will be very rational into their behaviour towards them. That behaviour has potential benefits when it comes to making someone independent from a very early stage but at the same time there are certain emotional gaps created that in some cases will later generate great issues for the individual as an adult.

Another good example is the kids play. While in the south parents wouldn’t live their kids get dirty while they play, nor they would allow them to walk outdoors without shoes, in the north none of these seems to be an issue. An extreme verbal and sometimes physical punishement would folllow if accidentally breaking a glass vase in the living room, say in Italy, while in Holland the parents would just advice their kid smiling not to do it again. I can still remember my mum’s wrath when I broke those lsa glasses that I used as a mini basket, playing some sort of basketball with it. Looking at it from a parent’s perspective, I cannot really understand what the point would be into making my kids life a hell just because they broke some glassware.

What is acceptable or not when it comes to kids behaviour is very subjective and there’s no right or wrong attitude. It’s more about whether the parents will find a way or not to deal with their routine issues that are definitely afffecting their moods.

Model Kits Are In Again

One of the most popular choices for children when it comes to what they are after for their birthday is always something along the lines of model kits but what is the reason for this?

One of the best things about a model kit is that they are actually very constructive for the mind and getting your child to build on this is a very good idea to take on indeed. So if your child is really going on at you to get them a model kit make sure you do it and you do not go out and get them a video game because it is easier on you.

Something else that must be mentioned is that they are great for parents as well. Parents can sit down with children and help them to build a kit up from nothing to a towering model that the whole family can be really proud to have built.

So for a family what is the best thing to start with?? Although many people out there will not call Lego sets model kits I will say that I still think they are a great way to start things off when it comes to teaching a child how to build things and you can help them to love the hobby by doing this.

Once this has been done I would look into something from the RC range of models because they are easy for a child to use, well certainly the cars are anyway. RC cars are really good for a small child to start off with. You can then look to build on this by bringing in the remote control helicopter.

If your child is still into the hobby then you can go as far as getting them the kits that take the time to build up.

This is the real test but other than this just make sure you have fun with your children!

Using A Kids Playhouse To Get Your Child To Do Their Homework

A kids playhouse is a special and inviting place for children because it’s comfortable and safe. The special “ambiance” feel that a playhouse has speaks to a young child’s dreams and fancies. A playhouse can be the perfect place for a kid to unwind before beginning their homework .   Homework time can often be stressful for the entire family.  This stressful time can be diminished once your child is treated to doing their homework in their own playhouse.

Break the rules by having your child do their homework in a kids outdoor playhouse. This is what makes the experience so intriguing for a kid.    Think outside of the box and go against the norm and have your child do their homework in a kids playhouse.   Homework doesn’t always have to be done while sitting in a chair and at a table.   Why not try spreading a blanket on the playroom floor?

An alternative way to integrate homework and a kids playhouse is by having play time in the playhouse as a reward for your child after they have done their homework. As an example, for each half hour of homework time that your child does, he or she can get an extra half-hour of playtime to be used whenever they want! Some kids may not want to use their extra play time right away.  Instead, they may want to save it up to splurge on one big fun day.

Your kids playhouse is a part of the world that makes your child’s life interesting. By incorporating a learning component and an appreciation for the quiet time that they will have while doing homework, you are helping your child to develop focus and to be more conscientious…regardless of where they are expected to get their work done. Those are skills that they will be able to use long after homework morphs into the work that they have to bring home for their jobs!

The Great Fun Of Outdoor Play

I can recall many moments of the time I was a kid, playing some very creative games while at the same time I couldn’t realise the risks invlolved. There was definitely a great element of creativity involved as well as some attraction to anything forbidden or not conventional. Being a kid, danger and risk has great attraction as it goes hand in hand with great pleasure and excitement.

In order to give you an idea, I will try recall some of the most hazardous ones with the first one being some sort of bicycle chase all around the place. There were two teams involved, the first one which had five minutes to cycle away as fast as possible, ans the second one which sould try to find the first one. The aim wasn’t just to find the members of the other team but actually touch them physically so they would be caught out. Chasing was absolute madness as we would overlook anyone who would be on our way such as pedestrians, vehicles, parked cars etc. Exporation wasn’t always without victims or injuries but minor ones.

The best one, however, was ‘exploration’. We were entering abandoned private properties in order to come across some big discovery or secret that we wouldn’t share with any adult. Our greatest discovery was an old mansioned that was abandoned for years but no one ever dared to get into and have a look at it as many thought it was patrolled. It really was like a massive, endless labyrinth and we were totally scared as eerie sounds were coming from all over. Our biggest fear was whether there were any patrol dogs left to be running around but that encounter never took place.

Another time, we managed to get into that warehouse that was abandoned as the company who owned it went into liquidation. In the various compartments, which were not totally empty, we could find some many unusual objects. Most of those object were looking really weird and hostile as no one had ever come across things like pcb connectors, solenoids and waterproof connectors.

Looking at my kids being in the living room playing with the game console for so many hours, I really wonder how many great emptions they are missing out by not being able to experience any high-risk adrenaline game like the ones of my childhood.

Bedding Options For Families With Children

You can make small spaces bigger by using simple design techniques. If you have a new arrival or a young child you will need to plan for the child’s growth. There are many options when planning for their living space. Children grow fast so you will want a bedroom that grows with them and with your family.

One of the things that you have to think about when purchasing a home or making home improvements is where you child is going to sleep. Baby cribs are usually outgrown within a few years and traditional cribs might not be the best solution. Understanding this when choosing bedding options can mean a lot for your budget.

A neat suggestion is to build a loft bed above the crib. Children love the height and as the child grows they will enjoy their unique sleeping area. If you have a baby you can even build it above the crib so that it can be used for storage until the time is right. This adds storage and conserves space.

The bed can be adjusted to almost any height and safety gear can be put onto it. Things like safety rails and stairs are easy to install. The bed can later be converted to or if you desire it can be made a full loft bed at the start. This gives your child some extra room without taking up space.

Once the child has grown enough under the bed can be used as a student work area, a computer area, or even just a play area. They are wonderful because they do not take up the space a traditional bed does. The underside of the bed can also be used for storage for the big kids.

You can also add a bed below the loft if you expand your family. This way you can expand your family without expanding your home. You can turn it into bunk beds if you need to. A full bed or a single mattress can be used in either case. This saves room and allows you to modify the beds as you need to. You can not do this with conventional beds. There are kits and plans available in various sizes and styles.

On thing that you have to keep in mind when building a bed such as this is safety. A high bed can be fun but safety has to come first. You can also allow you child to help build, paint, and decorate a wooden bed. It can be a fun family project.
